Day 2 – a morning walking tour of Ljubljana with a local guide. The capital of Slovenia was ruled by the Hapsburgs in the 14th century.
The elaborate architecture and fortified hills reflect this influence. Stroll along the Ljubljanica River, which runs through the center of the city where the National Gallery, museums, monuments, and a myriad of stores and galleries await. Visit the Square of Three Bridges, the famous fountain of the Carniolan Rivers, and the Baroque City Hall. Walk around the Baroque Quarter, the Roman ruins, and the 13th-century castle.
Afternoon at your leisure – take a walk around the city on your own. Many luxury shops and restaurants with typical Slovenian food are at your disposal. Try the famous "Kranjska kobasa" – (Carniolan sausage) with cabbage and beer. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3 – OPTIONAL EXCURSION TO BLED & POSTOJNA
After breakfast, departure to Bled and Postojna for a full-day excursion. First, we will visit the fairytale town of Bled. Bled was presented to the Bishop of Brixen by the Holy Roman Emperor, Henry II, in the Middle Ages. The jewel-like Bled Lake, fringed with wooded shores and towering mountains, is overlooked by a medieval castle. Visit the picturesque castle on the hill – evidence of Bled's past. From the castle, you can see a small island in the middle of the lake – home to the white tower and red roof of the Baroque-style pilgrim church of the Virgin's nativity.
We continue towards Postojna and will visit the site of one of the largest and most beautiful cave systems in Europe. Postojna Caves are a twenty-seven km long series of intricate underground galleries and chambers. A guided tour on a small electric train will take you through them.
Return to Ljubljana, overnight stay.
Day 4 – After breakfast, free time until the transfer for your flight home.
