Day 1: TIRANA

Arrival in Tirana, the capital of Albania. Meeting with your driver and transfer to the hotel. Meeting with the English-speaking guide and heading out on the city tour. Afternoon sightseeing of Tirana – Albania’s capital since 1920. It lies almost exactly midway between Rome and Istanbul, and its architecture has been influenced by both, as well as by Russia. The city tour of Tirana begins at Skënderberg Square, a great open space in the heart of the city. Most of the sites are situated near the Main Square, such as the National History Museum, Mausoleum of former President Enver Hoxha, Palace of Culture, and the Et’hem Bey Mosque, the Clock Tower, and the cable car ride to Dajti Mountain. Accommodations and overnight stay at Hotel International or the same category in Tirana.

Day 2: TIRANA – DURRES – KRUJA – TIRANA

After breakfast, meet with the guide and leave for Durres. Durres was the ancient Greco-Roman port city of Dyrrachium. The visit to the town includes the Byzantine city walls and Roman amphitheater. Drive towards Kruja, the picturesque birthplace of Skanderbeg, Albania’s National Hero. After the visit to Kruja Castle and the Skanderbeg Museum, proceed to Tirana. Overnight stay at the Hotel International or the same category in Tirana.

Day 3: TIRANA – OHRID

In the morning after breakfast, departure for Ohrid, a lake bordering with Macedonia. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Ohrid, the center not only of Macedonian culture but of all Slavic nations as well. Settlements around Ohrid, churches along the banks of Ohrid Lake, and springs of river Crni Drim complement the magical beauty and attractiveness of the city of Ohrid. Afternoon free for leisure and individual exploration. Overnight stay at the hotel Millenium Palace in Ohrid.

Day 4: OHRID – SV KLIMENT – OHRID

After breakfast, a walking tour of the old part of the city and visit to the church of St. Sofija (Holy Wisdom) from the 11th century, then the Classical Theater, then the church or St. Bogorodica Perivlepta (Mother of God Peribleptos) from the 13th century, Gallery of Icons (4th most valuable collection of icons in the world). After an approximately 10 to 15 minute walk uphill from the gallery, we reach Samuel’s Fortress, which offers a unique view of the town of Ohrid and the lake. In close vicinity is an excavation site, which used to be a large Early Christian center and the place where St. Kliment (Clement) founded the first Slavic University. There you can see the history and the development of the town of Ohrid. Afterwards (after free time for lunch) we continue the sightseeing tour and drive through the region where a special type of Ohrid cherry is grown. We also pass through an area where the smell of sulfur draws attention to the fact that there has to be a volcano nearby. We continue to the village of Recica and visit the so-called natural “Washing Machines” (this region abounds with water so the locals back in past invented a method of washing blankets and clothes only with water without using detergents in washtubs specially made for that purpose, which continues to be used to this day. Return to Ohrid. Overnight stay at the hotel Millenium Palace in Ohrid.            

Day 5: OHRID – BITOLA – SKOPLJE

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we leave for Bitola and visit the Bitola Museum, the church of St. Dimitrija, the Isak and Jeni Mosques, Bezisten (covered Turkish marketplace), Bazaar. Drive to Heraklea Linkestis, an ancient Macedonian city situated approx. 2 km south of present-day Bitola, founded by Philip II of Macedonia in the middle of the 4th century BC. Free time for lunch and then we continue to Skopje. Arrival in Skopje in the late afternoon. Accommodation at the Best Western Turist hotel and an overnight stay.             

Day 6: SKOPJE FD

After breakfast, a sightseeing tour of the capital (a walking tour): The Macedonia Square with plenty of statues, the triumphal arch Porta Macedonia, the old Train Station, Statue and Memorial House of Mother Theresa, and many new museums and buildings built as a part of the project Skopje 2014 (giving Skopje a more classical appearance), the Old Stone Bridge, Daut Pasha’s Hamam, continuing with the sightseeing in the old part of Skopje (the left bank of the Vardar River), Skopje’s Old Bazaar, the church of St. Spas (The Holy Salvation), Kale Fortress, the Mustafa Pasha Mosque. Drive to the Pantelejmon Monastery in the village of Nerezi, in the vicinity of the city, situated on the slopes of Vodno Mountain, with a splendid view of Skopje, and also visiting the Ethno village across from the monastery building. Return to the Best Western Turist hotel in Skopje. Spend the night there.        

Day 7: SKOPJE – PRISTINA – GRACANICA MONASTERY – PRIŠTINA

After breakfast, head to Pristina. Upon arrival, meet with a local guide for a city tour, and visit the Gračanica Monastery.Overnight stay at the Swiss Diamond Hotel in Pristina.

Day 8: PRISTINA – TETOVO – SKOPJE

After breakfast, drive towards Tetovo. In Tetovo, visit the Sharena Djamija (Motley Mosque) and afterwards, visit the Matka Canyon on the Treska River and the St. Andrea church. Arrive in Skopje in the afternoon. Overnight stay at the Best Western hotel in Skopje.

Day 9: departure

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, departure transfer for the return flight.
